Julia Bradbury's Favourite Springtime Walks

“Walking is one of the nation’s favourite pastimes and more and more of us are discovering its incredible health benefits. Now that the days are getting lighter, walking to work is a great way to start the morning – helping to clear the mind, wake up the body properly and take a few life-affirming deep breaths before heading into the challenges of the day.

One of the best jobs in the world has got to be walking for work, and I never forget how lucky I am to have one of those. Here are some my favourite routes from The Outdoor Guide that are guaranteed to put a spring in the step at this especially beautiful time of the year.”

1. Sissinghurst Estate Walk, Kent

"This short and varied walk explores the grounds of the National Trust’s Sissinghurst Castle in Kent – a historic, poetic and iconic estate with a world-renowned garden. Sissinghurst is a beautiful place to come no matter what time of year, but the daffodils are stunning in spring. After your walk you can also get a ticket to explore the gardens. Look out for the gazebo in the corner of the garden by the moat, which looks out over the estate and wider Wealden countryside."

2. Loch Lomond, Scotland

"This walk offers one of the most outstanding views over Loch Lomond – at 24 miles long, it’s the largest loch in Scotland by surface area. Picking up the West Highland Way, we love to hugs the bonnie banks through to the little village of Balmaha on the eastern side of the Loch, and take a quick boat trip to the ancient Lomond isle of Inchcailloch, with magnificent views across the water and out to the surrounding fells."

3. High Peak Trail, Peak District

“This walk begins from Hoe Grange Farm, a working farm with accessible holiday accommodation. The first part of the walk is on a concessionary path across David and Felicity’s land – the owners – who are very happy for you to park at Hoe Grange and use their disabled-friendly facilities before and after your walk. They even have an all-terrain wheelchair which you can hire out, making this a perfect walk for those who want a more adventurous trek on wheels.”
