We couldn’t put this list together without including one of the National Trust’s wonderful holiday spots in Northern Ireland. Erne View boasts views across Lough Erne (it’s pronounced ‘loch’, and means ‘lake’).
That provides an unmissable opportunity for water sports, not least of which is the Lough Erne Canoe Trail. Any canoe trail is a plus in our books, but Lough Erne has a particularly strong offering that includes historic waterside structures like Devenish Tower and Enniskillen Castle.
Wildlife is another big draw, with kingfishers, otters, and grey herons making regular appearances.
This very spacious retreat sleeps up to seven guests.
